about

Face to Face was written and rehearsed over an intensive five day period in Darwin’s first lockdown in June-July 2021. After having their debut performances at Darwin Fringe Festival cancelled due to the lockdown, Nick and Iran decided to record their new material instead. All tracks are complete live takes with no overdubs, recorded on 1 July 2021 at Nick’s house in Darwin.

Stopping Distance are Nick Yates (saxophone) and Iran Sanadzadeh (pressure-sensitive floors). Their collaboration draws on their disparate musical backgrounds to create a new music. Their improvisations are meditative, questioning, patient, and playful. Together, they explore the vast tonal and textural possibilities of their instruments, adopting new approaches in order to bridge the gap between acoustic and electronic worlds.
